Why is stefan on top chef again

Lakshmi began hosting in season 2 and holds the job to this day. Similarly, Colicchio and Simmons still serve as judges, though they have been joined by a rotating cast of other culinary pros over the years, such as Emeril Lagasse and the late Anthony Bourdain.

As with most reality competition shows, some Top Chef winners have fared better than others since their time on the show. After those restaurants eventually shuttered in and , Dieterle then took a break from the business for a few years.

As a result, the more deserving Stephanie Cmar packed her knives. Elmi then defeated runner-up Nina Compton after having a kitchen meltdown within earshot of the judges. Former stars like King, Kwame Onwuachi, and Gregory Gourdet act as both elder statesmen and peers; in one cleverly designed challenge, that group stood in as recipe testers for their successors. This may explain why the season all but abandoned the gimmick after the premiere.

But the cast member closest to a true villain—Gabriel Pascuzzi, a Portland native who was a vocally sore loser in the first Quickfire challenge—was eliminated less than halfway through the competition.

The biggest success story in televised food contests since, well, Top Chef is The Great British Bake Off, the sweet-in-all-senses-of-the-term series whose gentle positivity has spilled over into a slew of copycats.

Bake Off is an ode to the amateur, while Top Chef thrives on hard-won experience. In the penultimate episode, the judges declined to eliminate any one chef, keeping all three in contention for the title. Plus, Ryen closes it out with some listener-submitted Life Advice questions. Stefan: Of course I would! I would probably pick all the runners-ups and winners. Stefan: I think Michael Voltaggio. People don't realize he's the nicest guy.

I think we all have a bit of a persona because we're edited. I used to enjoy movies on the plane. It's all bulls--t. It took him 18 versions to get [the right shot. Stefan: They call me the rock star. My script said rock star [laughs]. Kevin Connolly walks in and I fight with him and all this bulls--t back and forth. Stefan: I would probably pick Jim Morrison and get stupidly f--ked up with him. I would probably get a bottle of whatever he likes, play old Doors music and get super f--ked up.

I was always a CJ fan. He went to Copenhagen, and was really inspired by cooking at Noma there. I believe the CJ from Season 3 and the Josie from Season 2 could not have competed so well with the chefs in this season, at this level. Stefan has changed too. Whenever he was in front of the judges this season, he actually was a lot calmer, more direct, less arrogant to us. But he was a little more thoughtful, a little more introspective about who he is as a chef, what he expected from himself.

GS: It was a very foggy day, unfortunately. By the time we got up, I felt like I knew the landscape of Seattle really well.

I could point at landmarks, and Tom [Douglas] took us through all the major neighborhoods and pointing them out. It was a great place to start the season, because it gave us a great sense of place. Can you tell us a little bit about him? GS: Tom Douglas for President! Tom Douglas is basically the default mayor of Seattle.

We spent a lot of time with him; he showed us such a great time all season long. He really was like our private ambassador to the city.
